Hearnote is made by one person. Email goes straight to my inbox, and I’m the one who answers.
Restoring a purchase
New phone or reinstalled the app? Open Hearnote, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases. You need a connection and the same Apple ID you bought with.
If Pro still isn’t unlocked, check you’re signed in with the right Apple ID in Settings › [your name] › Media & Purchases, then try again.
Cancelling a subscription
Go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Hearnote and tap Cancel Subscription, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Lifetime has nothing to cancel. For a refund, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I don’t see the Summary tab
Summaries need Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro or later, turned on in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri, with the recording’s language supported by Apple Intelligence. The model may need time to download after you turn it on. Hearnote’s Settings shows an Apple Intelligence status line with the reason.
The transcript isn’t accurate
Put the iPhone close to whoever is speaking, not in a pocket or under a laptop, and cut background noise. Check the recording is transcribed in the right language (tap the language chip to re-transcribe in another). Add names and jargon to Custom Vocabulary.
A recording was interrupted
A phone call pauses recording until you tap Resume. If the app was closed or the battery died, open Hearnote again: the recording is recovered up to the last few seconds. Settings › “If recording is interrupted” explains each case.
Reporting a bug
Use Settings › Feedback in the app, or email me your device model, iOS version, the recording’s language and length, and what you were doing when it went wrong. A screenshot helps a lot. Please don’t send recordings that contain sensitive information.
Frequently asked questions
Which languages does Hearnote support?
English (in the regional variants your iPhone supports) and Vietnamese — both get the same care. You choose a default language when you start, and you can re-transcribe any recording in the other language at any time.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Recording, transcription, summaries, Ask and translation all run on the device. The first time you use a language, your iPhone downloads its speech model from Apple (once, with progress shown); after that no connection is needed.
Which iPhone do I need?
Hearnote needs iOS 26 or later. Recording and transcription work on every iPhone that runs iOS 26. Summaries and Ask Hearnote’s written answers need Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max or any iPhone 16 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on and supporting the recording’s language. Without it you still get the full transcript, export and search, and Ask shows the best-matching moments instead of an answer.
What happens if my phone dies or the app closes mid-recording?
Hearnote writes a safety journal alongside the recording and saves it every 5 seconds. If the app is swiped away, closed by iOS, or the phone powers off, the next launch shows “Recording recovered” — everything up to the last few seconds. Locking the screen or switching apps doesn’t stop recording at all.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Audio, transcripts and notes stay in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. Hearnote has no server that receives them and no account. They leave the phone only when you export or share them yourself.
How long can a recording be?
Hours. Memory use stays flat however long it runs. Hearnote only stops if your storage is nearly full, and even then everything recorded so far is safe.
What’s the difference between Free and Pro?
Free includes unlimited recording, transcription for 3 recordings and up to 60 minutes a week, quick-note summaries and TXT/Markdown export. Pro unlocks unlimited transcription, every summary template, Ask Hearnote, speakers, chapters, study mode, translation and Word/SRT export. The sample recording in the app has every Pro feature unlocked so you can try them.
Is it legal to record other people?
It depends on where you live. The safest habit is to always tell people you are recording and ask for consent where required. You are responsible for how you record.
